Having a blog has become one of the most popular digital mediums out there. Literally, thousands of begun blogging to: Learn a niche, develop a digital brand, and create a passive income side hustle.
One of the best parts about blogging is how you can create one for any niche. No matter what your interest is, there are tons of people out there wanting to learn more about it.
But before you get too eager to jump into the world of blogging for profit, it might be worth to check out the costs you will need to consider first:
The Cost of Blogging
Domain Cost – $8 – $14 yearly
The cost for a website domain varies among who you’re buying it from. The most affordable I’ve seen is Google Domains and Name Cheap. Almost all domain purchase registries will package your domains with hosting cost, but you do not need to buy hosting from the same company selling you the domain.
When you register a domain you are going to be paying for it yearly, and not for a bad price either to see if blogging is for you. Keep in mind, when it comes to blogging it’s best to register a .com domain, so the pricing range provided is only considered for them.
Hosting Cost – $47.40 – $120 yearly
Much like your domain registree, your hosting provider will vary depending on which company you choose. Each will offer a differing level of customer service and price listings, with the more well-known hosters out there charging way more per month.
I am currently using SiteGround as my hosting service and I get just what I need for a very affordable price. For just $5.95 a month($71.40/year) I am able to have multiple domains hosted through them. Plus I am able to package Email service, WordPress Set-up, and free SSL Certification.
WordPress Theme – $0 – $200+
WordPress reigns as one of the most used site-builders out there for bloggers. WordPress is free for most Web Hosting Platforms, but having a theme is another story. Luckily for you, WordPress offers a plethora of themes for free.
However, if you want one that would likely have more customization, updates, and faster page speed, you are likely better off buying a theme. WordPress does offer premium options you can just click and activate, but if some of the more golden gems out there can be found on services such as Etsy or Theme Forest.
In any case, I would strongly advise looking into which theme is right for you. Having a good theme can really make the difference in getting readers to your site.
Logo Cost – $5 – $100
If you aren’t a professional designer, then you will be best off hiring a freelancer to create a web logo for you. You can hire some pretty inexpensively off freelance websites such as Fiverr or Upwork. Just be aware that this more often than not be a get what you pay for situation.
Total Cost
Let’s take a look at the minimal cost here:

So in all, you’ll be looking at a minimal budget of $60.40 to get started in blogging. As your blog grows, and you begin to develop a profit, you will likely need to consider adding other expenses into it such as hiring virtual assistants or taxing yourself as a separate business.
Sounds very affordable. If you’re interested in taking the first step, then I welcome you to the world of blogging!
